There's magic in your cleansing regime.  Why?  Because it's a dirty world out there and that spells trouble for your skin – a daily build up of grease, grime, environmental pollutants and dead skin cells can clog pores and irritate skin.  Not only will this lead to a dull complexion it could also lead to certain medical conditions such as eczema, dermatitis and rosacea.

As well as removing day to day dirt, cleansing can also offer long term skin care benefits. 

• Even the most hi-tech face creams won't work if they can't sink into clean pores.  Facial cleansers will help to remove any surface dirt, leaving fresh clean skin that will soak up your moisturiser better. 
• Massaging in your cleanser will help to boost the lymphatic system, draining excess fluid from the face and brightening the skin.

Morning and night, but pay particular attention to your cleansing regime in the evening.

How to achieve the ultimate cleanse

• Smooth your cleanser or face wash over your face, neck and décolletage – don't stop at your jawline.
• Massing your cleanser promotes wellbeing, rests your features and boosts radiance.  Start by gently sweeping down your neck to stimulate the lymphatic drainage.  Then move your fingers in circles, moving upwards and outwards all over your face.
• Rinse with lukewarm water (if it's too hot it can damage your skin, if it's too cold your pores will shrink making it harder for your cleanser to clean).
• Use a hot towel or muslin cloth (like the one in our Seventh Heaven Cleansing Balm) to remove your cleanser and gently exfoliate the skin.

Top tip! Tap water in the UK has a high mineral content, so if you don't rinse well you might feel a slight residue.  Rinse for 30 seconds more than you think you need to.

A word to the wise

Too much cleansing can remove your skins natural oils, leaving your skin feeling tight and sensitive.  So make sure you choose a cleanser or face wash that's suitable for your skin type.  After using your skin should feel soft, smooth and comfortable, not squeaky clean!  Find a facial cleanser to suit your skin type here
