Essential Oil Policy
Customer Guidelines
To get the most from your VIE at home Aromatherapy products we recommend the following:
If you are concerned about using Pure Essential OIls please consult a medical practitioner or trained Aromatherapist before starting. This is essential if you take medication, have any medical issues (such as skin conditions or allergies) or are pregnant.
With guidance from your professional advisor please observe the following usage guidelines:-
Pregnancy: Do not use any oils during the first 4 months of your pregnancy. Use of certain oils in half dilutions can commence after this with guidance from your professional advisor.
Babies 0 - 4 years: Chamomile and Lavender at quarter-strength only.
Infants 4-7 years: Chamomile and Lavender at half-strength. The following oils can be used a quarter-strength (try a skin test before use - 1 drop to 8ml carrier oil): Cedarwood, Clementine, Mandarin, Myrtle, Palmarose, Rose, Spearmint, Tangerine and Tea Tree.
Children 7-12 years: All oils at half-strength (try a skin test before use).
Exposure to sunshine: If you are going to be exposed to sunlight for prolonged periods, we advise caution particularly if using Pure Essential Oils but you should avoid the following before any exposure to the sun: Bergamot, Citronella, Clementine, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Orange, Mandarin and Tangerine. Do not sunbathe or use a sun-bed after applying any Pure Essential Oils to the skin.
Drinking alcohol: Avoid Clary Sage.
Nut Allergies: Products that state they contain nut derived ingredients should be avoided. Perform a skin test before using any oil for the first time particularly if you have sensitive skin. If irritation develops at any time discontinue use immediately.
How to perform a skin test
To perform a skin test, make the required dilution and place one drop on the fabric section of a plaster. Then place the plaster on the inside of the elbow, back of the wrist or the inside of the upper arm. Discontinue the test at any point if irritation develops. Leave the plaster in place for 24 hours, avoiding carefully during washing etc, and then remove. Inspect the application point after 10 minutes and if there are any visible or physical signs of irritation such as redness, bumps, itching or burning, do not use that oil.
Do not exceed the recommended dilutions.
Do not take internally. Keep away from eyes.
Asthmatics should not inhale Pure Essential Oils.
When using daily, alternate the oils on a regular basis.
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Store in a cool dark place.
Methods of Use
Massage
Always dilute Pure Essential Oils first using our carrier oil. Blend 3-5 drops of Pure
Essential Oil(s) to 10ml of Grapeseed Oil Carrier Base or 25ml of Body Lotion Carrier Base and gently massage into the skin. Some oils can irritate the skin, so make sure you follow the instructions.
Massage may be on the whole body or just the affected area.
Bath
First mix up to 6 drops of Pure Essential Oils to approximately 10ml of our Bath/Shower Carrier Base then add to your bath when the water is at the required temperature (warm not hot) or use in your shower. We recommend you use a maximum of only 3 drops when using Black Pepper, Ginger, Lemongrass, Peppermint or any of the Citrus Pure Essential Oils.
Ambience Oil Burners
Add around 5 drops of Pure Essential Oil(s) to approximately 30ml of water in any of our Oil Burners.
Use an unfragranced tealight and always follow the detailed instructions supplied. Ensure all packaging is removed before use.
Ensure the tealight is positioned flat and centrally in the base of the burner before lighting.
Always burn on a flat, heat-resistant surface and do not place on polished and decorated surfaces as this may cause damage. Do not burn near sources of heat or on hot surfaces, such as near a fire place, a television, or in direct sunlight.
Keep matches, wick trimmings and foreign objects out of the tealight. Never leave a burning tealight unattended.
Do not evaporate oil undiluted. Do not let the dish dry out during use. Always ensure the level of the water is maintained by topping up regularly.
If the level of water is low, extinguish the flame and allow the dish to cool before topping up to avoid extreme temperature changes.
Keep away from children, animals, draughts and flammable materials, such as curtains.
During use some parts may become hot and hot wax can burn. Never move whilst burning, always wait until the hot wax is set and the burner has cooled sufficiently before disturbing. If the tealight smokes, extinguish and trim wick.
Never allow the tealight to continue to burn if the flame becomes enlarged.
Steam Inhalation
Add a maximum of 3-5 drops of Pure Essential Oil to a bowl of hot water and inhale for a total of 5 to 10 minutes. To maximize the effects bend over the bowl and put a towel over your head, keeping your eyes closed and breathe deeply for a few minutes.
Atomiser Spritz
Thoroughly mix 10 drops of Pure Essential Oil with a teaspoon of vodka and 20ml of water to use for mood enhancing and to fragrance rooms.
Shake very well before each use and do not spray directly on to polished, painted or delicate surfaces. Only certain oils can be used to refresh clothing, curtains and linen due to staining etc and this is not suitable for delicate fabrics. Please refer to your Consultant who can help give you tips about which Pure Essential Oils make the best Spritzs.
