Animal Testing Policy
At VIE at home we are committed to helping to bring about an end to animal testing for cosmetics and toiletries. To this end, we:
- Do not test finished products on animals.
- Do not test any of our ingredients on animals.
- Do not commission tests on animals, to be carried out on our behalf.
Safety is of paramount importance to us and all of our products undergo rigorous safety assessments by qualified scientists followed, where applicable, by supervised testing on human volunteers.
Compliance to the EU Nickel Directive
VIE at home Jewellery is compliant with the European Nickel Directive regulations that came into effect in July 2001. This applies to 925 silver, fashion and bijoux lines.
The most common cause of allergic reaction to jewellery is through contact with the metal Nickel. The regulations were implemented because statistically, at least 5% of the female population and 2% of the male population suffer from an allergic reaction to Nickel, so the European Union decided to control its use in an attempt to reduce the numbers of people who suffer from this reaction.
Nickel release from metal is measured in a precise and complex way, looking at the nickel release that occurs over a period of time. The EU directive states that all jewellery that has prolonged contact with the skin should not release more than a maximum of 0.5 micrograms of nickel per centimetre squared of metal per week.
Our Jewellery suppliers are contracted to only supply EU directive compliant components, therefore, reducing the risk of any allergic reactions that could occur. Our components are tested prior to production starting and the jewellery is checked before it is shipped to the UK.
